Accessibility & aging in place

Accessible bathroom renovations in Winnipeg

For many homeowners, stepping over a tub wall becomes a major barrier to using the bathroom comfortably. A standard same-footprint low-threshold conversion can often be completed in 2–3 working days. Fully curbless or zero-threshold projects can require more extensive floor and drainage work, so their schedule is confirmed separately.

Accessibility planning

Start with the barrier, not the product

The right changes depend on how the person using the bathroom enters, turns, transfers, reaches and moves through the room. Sometimes removing a tub wall solves the biggest obstacle. Other projects need a curbless floor, wider doorway, seating or fixture changes.
We plan the layout around the agreed functional needs of the person using it, and we can work from relevant occupational therapist, physiotherapist or care-team recommendations when they are provided.

What we install

Accessibility built into the room

Low-threshold and curbless showers

Low-threshold options reduce the step into the shower. Fully curbless designs can require additional floor and drainage work, so we confirm what the room can support.

Grab bars with proper backing

Bars are anchored into solid blocking behind the finished wall so the support comes from the structure, not drywall plugs.

Slip-resistant flooring

Flooring and tile are selected with wet-area traction in mind, along with the drainage, layout and cleaning needs of the room.

Seating and easier-to-use fixtures

Options can include shower seating, comfort-height toilets, lever handles and single-lever faucets where they suit the user and the room.

Wider openings and turning space

Where the structure allows, we can widen openings and plan clear floor space around the way a walker or wheelchair needs to move.

Lighting and visual contrast

Brighter, more even lighting and clearer contrast between surfaces and fixtures can make the room easier to read and navigate.
For referring professionals

Built around relevant functional recommendations

When an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, care coordinator or other professional has identified relevant functional requirements, we can build to that agreed scope. Share the requirements that affect the renovation, not a full medical record.
We coordinate applicable permits, provide an itemized written quote and document the completed renovation for the homeowner. Quote requests are answered within one business day.
Funding and documentation

Funding you may be able to use

Accessible bathroom renovations may qualify for provincial funding or federal tax relief depending on the homeowner and the work. Eligibility is decided by the program or CRA, not Everden.

What we give you

Documentation to support your records

Every job
You receive an itemized written quote before work begins and an invoice after completion showing Everden business details, the renovation scope and project dates. Keep these documents with any grant or tax records you are required to retain.

We can also work from relevant occupational therapist, physiotherapist or care-team recommendations when they affect the renovation scope.

Program rules, amounts and eligibility can change. Confirm current requirements with March of Dimes Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency before relying on funding or a tax credit.
Common questions

Accessible bathroom questions, answered

The cost depends on how much of the room needs to change. A same-footprint shower conversion is a different scope from a fully curbless floor, widened doorway or complete bathroom renovation. We provide an itemized written quote after reviewing the room and the required features.

Yes. A low-threshold shower can often fit into the existing tub footprint. A fully curbless or zero-threshold shower may require additional floor, drainage and waterproofing work, so we confirm what the room can support before quoting it.

A standard same-footprint low-threshold conversion is often completed in about 2–3 working days. Fully curbless floors, wider openings, layout changes or hidden repairs take longer. We confirm the expected schedule for your specific scope before work begins.

No. The right entry depends on the user, the room and any professional recommendations. A low threshold may remove the tub-wall barrier with less construction, while a zero-threshold shower can be important where rolling access is required.

Grab bars should be anchored into proper structural backing. When the wall is open, we install solid blocking where the agreed bar locations require it, then complete the finished wall over that backing.

Yes. We can work from relevant functional recommendations that affect the renovation scope. Please share only the requirements we need for the work, not a full medical record.

Yes, some homeowners may qualify for provincial funding or federal tax relief. Manitoba has the Safe and Healthy Home for Seniors Program, and the federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit may apply to qualifying renovations. Eligibility and program rules change, so confirm current requirements with the program or CRA before relying on funding.
